Future Direction for the science of Mycoremediation.

It has been widely recognised by experts that there is a lack of fundamental knowledge, which has resulted in slow progression of the science of mycoremediation. Much of the resources have been put towards research into the strain of white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium whilst virtually thousands of other species each containing lignolytic properties have gone unstudied (Pointing, 2001). Recently however, experts have begun defining the science and have written books with a holistic approach towards mycoremediation. These are the fundamental properties that are needed to justify mycoremediation as a science.

It is crucial that further research is carried out within the science to help advance and validate mycoremediation.
